On March 19th, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment held the 2024 Solid Waste and Chemical Environmental Management Work Conference in Jinan, Shandong Province, comprehensively summarizing the work for 2023 and arranging and deploying the work for 2024.

  The meeting requires that the national solid waste and chemical environmental management work in 2024 strictly benchmark against the requirements of building a beautiful China, fully implement the requirements of the 2024 National Ecological Environment Protection Work Conference, continuously consolidate the reform of prohibiting the import of "foreign garbage", deeply and solidly promote the pollution control of the sulfur iron mining area and the "manganese triangle" in Baihe County, strengthen the standardized supervision of hazardous waste, actively promote the construction of a traceable information system throughout the process, promote the construction of "waste free cities" with high standards, vigorously promote the utilization and disposal of bulk solid waste, develop new productive forces of circular economy, actively promote the treatment of new pollutants, strengthen the environmental risk classification and control of tailings ponds and heavy metal pollution control, and strengthen the full chain governance of plastic pollution. Continuously promoting the construction of party conduct and clean governance.

Guo Fang, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Environment, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Vice Governor of Shandong Province Fan Bo attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Eight provinces (cities), including Liaoning, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Shandong, Chongqing, and Sichuan, have conducted experience exchanges with ecological and environmental departments (bureaus). Officials from relevant departments, dispatched agencies, and directly affiliated units of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, as well as the ecological environment departments of various provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government), attended the meeting.
